1 Ancient Rome Vocabulary

2 Republic A form of government in which the citizens elect a representatives to make all the government decisions. The people vote on their leaders.

3 Consul One of two chief officials who held power in the Ancient Rome Republic. 2 people in charge of the government. Like having 2 presidents.

4 Dictator A ruler with absolute authority A ruler with limitless power

5 Senate A counsel (group) of representatives
A group of people who make the decisions and laws for the Roman citizens

6 Plebeian A farmer, worker, merchant, or craft worker.
Mostly the poor people, but also includes any Roman who wasn’t rich.

7 Patrician A noble or rich Roman Most of the wealthy Roman Citizens
All senators were Patricians

8 Legion A unit of soldiers in the Ancient Roman army
A group of 6,000 soldiers.

9 Aqueduct A system of bridges and canals that carry water from place to place. A structure used to bring water to areas without water.

10 Forum A public meeting place for the Roman
A place to shop, read laws, conduct business with others, or just hang out.
