2 Learning Objectives Outline the different types of planning and tools needed to make decisions SWOT Analysis Vision and Mission Statements Goals Objectives

3 SWOT Analysis

4 What is a SWOT A strategic planning method used to evaluate a project or business venture. YOU must first start by defining a desired end or objective.

5 SWOT Strengths: attributes of the person or company that are helpful to achieving the objective(s). Weaknesses: attributes of the person or company that are harmful to achieving the objective(s). Opportunities: external conditions that are helpful to achieving the objective(s). Threats: external conditions which could do damage to the objective(s).

6 Questions to ask Is the objective attainable after doing the SWOT? What are the barriers to success? Can we control them? If it is NOT A different objective must be selected and the process repeated.

Conduct a SWOT analysis of yourself to determine if you could reach your goal

13 Example: Sometimes Businesses will refer to these things as: Their Philosophy. It is the same idea, at the end of the day they are the company’s guiding principals.

14 Goals and Objectives Organizations use these to help them achieve their Mission and Vision Statements. Goals and Objectives are used to help the organization improve and move towards their main driver. SRHS uses the SIP (School Improvement Plan) to help drive us towards our Mission and Vision Statements. Businesses don’t provide these readily on their websites because they would be part of their strategic planning processes.

20 Exercise 1 Identify a Personal Goal
Build three objectives that will allow you to reach the goal. Example: Goal: School Policy 4 SRHS will develop further and enhance strong family, business and community partnerships, focusing on communication, and family/community engagement. Objective: The PSSC will look into using their budget to improve communication within the school and with parents. Increase the number of teachers posting coursework/homework on wiki‟s, blogs, etc.
