Why You Are Here Every parent, teacher, sponsor, student, DoDDS administrator, and military commander shall share the responsibility to work collectively in supporting the schools, in enhancing programs, and improving not only the delivery of educational programs and support services to DoDDS students but also the overall quality of life shared by all personnel in the American overseas communities, of which the schools are an integral part. Educational Advisory Committees School Advisory Committee (SAC) 1342.15 Parents/professionals to advise principal Meets quarterly Installation Advisory Committee (IAC) 1342.15 Committee to advise the installation commander Meets quarterly District Advisory Committee (DAC) Advises district supervisors and works to resolve issues at lowest level possible Component Advisory Council (CAC) Reviews IAC recommendations Meets twice yearly Area Advisory Committee (AAC) Facilitates resolution of area issues Meets twice yearly European Schools Council (ESC) Assists commanders in evaluating/resolving issues Meets twice yearly Advisory Council on Dependent Education (ACDE) Makes educational recommendations to ASD and DoDEA Director - Meets twice yearly Defense Education Council (DEC) Makes policy recommendations to ASD Meets twice yearly ASST SEC DEF FMP Assistant Secretary of Defense, Force Management Policy

What Constitutes Advice? DoDDS interprets advice as suggestions and recommendations to the principal and/or installation commander for the improvement of educational programs and general quality of education and school programs. –Advice is welcomed –Advice is perceived as an essential resource to the school and its principal –Open channels of communication are to be maintained 3 Ds Data, Differentiation, and Diversity

What Committees Do Not Deal With Personnel practices or policies Compensation Grievances of school employees Advisory Committees have no authority to: –Raise money –Grant student scholarships –Financially support school events –Engage in any monetary projects traditionally associated with PTSAs, Boosters, or any other support group. 3 Ds Data, Differentiation, and Diversity

Ten Tips from the People on how to be a Winning Advisory Member Know your role. Be a team player. Be a good listener – really hear what people are saying. Ask questions to learn. Understand the big things (so you dont get bogged down with the little things). Hold opinions about issues, not people. Swear off hidden agendas. Look and act like a professional. Dont do business in the parking lot. Explain your point of view. 3 Ds Data, Differentiation, and Diversity
