Newton and Hooke Newton was a regular correspondent with Robert Hooke
Hooke always criticized Newton’s work, especially his work on optics. Newton simply stopped working on optics until Hooke died and then started working on it again. 1684 was the famous “coffee house meeting” between Halley, Hooke, and Wren Principia They talked about the possibility of force at a distance including the inverse square law. Halley then later drove to Cambridge to talk to Newton and Newton said that he had already proved this. He could not find it in his notes, so he did a brand new proof for it in just a few days. This is how Halley figured out how brilliant Newton was and requested he published it.

Success and Fame After the Glorious Revolution in 1688, Newton was elected to Parliament representing Cambridge As Wardon of the Mint in London and over saw the re-coining of English currency As Master of the Mint, he changed the silver standard to the gold standard After Hooke dies, Newton became President of the Royal Society Then Newton was Knighted, only the second English scientist to receive that honor. Right after that, Leibniz became big and people started looking into his work After Newton died, he was buried in a place set aside only for Royalty.
