Teacher will show students a blank pie chart for the gasses of the atmosphere divided into 78%, 21%, and 1%.
Gasses of the atmosphere will be listed next to the pie chart (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon, and water vapor).
Students will be asked to predict the percentage of each gas. After the discussion has been completed, teachers will reveal the correct answers and students will copy the pie chart into their notebooks.
This is a good opportunity to go more in depth on pie charts and estimation.

3. Complete the following reflection question: What was surprising about these percentages? Carbon Dioxide, is often referred to as a “problem” in our atmosphere. Explain how such a small percentage of the total can have such a large impact.
