2 Measures of Central Tendency
One or more numbers used to describe a set of data. Mean- sum of the data divided by the number of items in the data set. Median- middle number of the data ordered from least to greatest, or the mean of the middle 2 numbers. Mode- number or numbers that occur most often.

3 Choosing Appropriate Measures
Mean should be used when there are no extreme values (much greater or smaller than the rest of the data) Median could be used when there are extreme values, and no big gaps in the middle of the set. Mode used when there are repeated numbers

4 Point of view (manipulation)
Measures of central tendency are all called averages. For example: 3 tests scores: 25, 84, 92 mean = 67, median = 84, no mode I say the student averaged 84 because it looks and sounds better. Page #2-24 evens
