3 Economy The economy is the production, trade and purchasing of goods within a region. EG: Global Economy Canadian Economy Economy of Ontario We are all part of the economy because we buy things and, in turn, need to work (eventually) in order to buy more things.

4 How we make money Canada’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in each industry. 1.7 % in Agriculture 28.5 % in Industry (secondary) 69.8 % in Services (2011 stats)

5 Industries Primary Industry: removes resources from the earth/sea
Eg: Secondary: transforms raw materials into something else (finished good). Tertiary Industry: sales and services (sometimes sale of a secondary finished product) Quaternary Industry: a subset of tertiary dealing with goods and services online.

6 How to make $$$ PRIMARY Agriculture - products: wheat, barley, oilseed, tobacco, fruits, vegetables; dairy products; fish; forest products PRIMARY Industries: petroleum and natural gas; unprocessed minerals SECONDARY Industries: transportation equipment, chemicals, processed minerals, food products, wood and paper products, fish products,
