11 Chemical Spills Can cause chemical burns
Notify teacher, but stay as far as possible from the spill

12 Broken Glass Can cause cuts
Notify the teacher if there are chemicals in the glass If no chemicals, sweep up with dustpan and broom Dispose in the BROKEN GLASS container

13 Burning Chemicals Can lead to burns
Step back and notify teacher, then deal with it specifically.

14 Fire Needs 3 things to keep burning Fuel Oxygen Spark
Cut off one, and it will go out. Usually it is the oxygen.

15 Fire in a container Put a cover over the container (watchglass)
This removes the oxygen.

16 Fire on lab bench It should go out itself, but if not. Carefully smother it with a fire blanket

17 Uncontrolled fire Evacuate the room use fire extinguisher if trained.
Pull the fire alarm

18 Chemicals on Hands Can cause chemical burns
Wash off immediately with fast running water and use neutralization solution if chemical is an acid or base.

19 Smelling Chemicals Can lead to injured nasal passages
Dilute if the smell is too potent Wafting technique ONLY

20 Bunsen Burners Can lead to fire and burns Tie hair back
Don’t keep Bunsen burner gas on if you cannot get the burner to start. Turn it off and let it air

21 SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE! Always keep yourself and others safe
Wear closed toe shoes Tie hair back Remove any long jewelry If clothing is loose, secure it
