10.2 Mitosis I. Cell Cycle A. G1 – Cell Growth S – DNA Copied
G2 – Grow & Prepare for Mitosis M – Mitosis – nucleus replicates & separates C – Cytokinesis - cytoplasm separates - cell division Interphase
3
II. Mitosis A. The nucleus divides to form two nuclei each with a complete set of chromosomes B. Stages 1. Prophase a. chromosomes become visible b. nuclear envelope disappears c. spindle fibers form
5
2. Metaphase a. chromosome move to equator b. attach to spindle fibers
6
3. Anaphase a. chromatids separate as spindle fibers shorten
7
4. Telophase a. spindle fibers disappear b. new nuclear envelope forms around separate chromatids (aka new chromosomes)
