What Is FCCLA? Family Career and Community Leaders of America
An organization for students who are enrolled or have been enrolled in Family & Consumer Sciences classes for at least one semester

FCCLA History Feb. 1917 – Smith Hughes Act Signed
June 1945 – FHA founded in Chicago Oct – Arkansas FHA chapter chartered as 37th State Association July 1965 – FHA and New Homemakers merged

FCCLA History (Cont.) May 1971 – HERO Chapters established
Oct – Home Ec. Changed to FACS July 1999 – FHA/HERO changed to FCCLA Oct – New emblem adopted

Who Can Join? You must be a student in grades 8-12 who is currently taking a Family and Consumer Sciences course or have taken one in the past.

The relationship between FCS and FCCLA
FCCLA promotes personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. It is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus.

FCCLA Mission To promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and vocational preparation.

Things To Know Motto – Toward New Horizons
Colors – Red and White Red stands for courage, determination, & strength. White stands for sincerity of purpose and integrity of action. Flower – Red Rose It represents the search for joy and beauty in everyday living.

The Emblem The FCCLA emblem shows that FCCLA is a dynamic, active organization bound for the future. The collegiate lettering articulates a focus on education and student leadership. The swooping arch embodies an active organization the moves toward new arenas. Wear over the heart or on a jacket pocket.

FCCLA Purposes To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life. To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society. To encourage democracy through cooperation in the home and family. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
