Richard Connell was born in in Duchess County, New York. While still in high school, he began his writing career working for his father’s Poughkeepsie newspaper.
As a student at Harvard, he wrote for two college newspapers. He went on to write hundreds of short stories, as well as novels and Hollywood screenplays.

He has read books about hunting that were written in English, French and Russian.
He hums a tune from an opera (Madam Butterfly).
He lives in a well decorated Chateau (oak panels, high ceiling, vast refectory table).
