1. Reading: Monday 1-28 I.J. 10
Turn in your Chunking Text Worksheet packet if you haven’t already.
On Friday, we discussed in class whether anyone can own the earth. Do you think anyone owns the earth? Or do you disagree? Describe your answer.
When you finish, you can read silently or work on your response journals for your book to movie project.

2. Reading: Monday 1-28 I.J. 10
In the left column on page 511, the author describes Little Man as being finicky. How does the author prove that he is?
Use the “Yes Ma’am” approach in answering your question. When you finish, write an M A A M in your margins next to which part of your response is which. Be sure to answer in at least a paragraph.

3. Reading: Tuesday 1-29 I.J. 11
Be sure the “Yes Ma’am” question about Little Man on I.J.10 is complete from yesterday.
In your I.J. page 11, answer the following question:
Have you ever had to sacrifice or give up something for your family? Describe what it felt like. If not, what was the most difficult thing your family has ever undergone?
When you finish, you may read silently.
Today we will continue to read “Song of the Trees” in table groups.

4. Reading: Wednesday 1-30
Have your textbook open to whatever page you left off on in “Song of the Trees”. (starts on page 510)
You may read your independent book silently or work on response journals for your Book to Movie Project.
Don’t forget Friday when your I.J. is due, we will have a Project Work Day!

5. Reading: Wednesday 1-30
Read through the Context Clues Worksheet with a partner.
On the back, determine the specific type of context clue that is used for each of the 10 vocabulary words within “Song of the Trees”. The vocabulary words are all underlined throughout the story, and the definitions are in foot notes on the bottom of the page.
When you finish, turn it in at THE HUB and continue to read where you left off in the story individually.

6. Reading: Thursday 1-31
Read the rest of “Song of the Trees” on your own during independent reading time.
When you finish, read your independent reading book so I know you are done. You may also work on your Response Journals.

7. SONG OF THE TREES QUIZ: Complete on a separate piece of paper with your name on it, then turn it in at THE HUB and read silently.

What is the theme, or meaning, of this story? Write your answer in a well structured paragraph, giving examples from the story that lead you to your answer.

Your I.J. is DUE TODAY. Please have your Table of Contents marked if it is not in the very front of your I.J.
Once I have checked off that you have turned in your I.J., you may work on your Book to Movie Project.
