STONE AGES – PEOPLE HAD TO BE FITS TO SURVIVE AN INPORTANT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WAS DANCE WHICH WAS PRACTISED AT RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES DANCE ALSO USED FOR ENTERTAINMENT AND DANCING

ANCIENT SUMER & EGYPT Wrestling and other sports were encouraged
Dancing was popular at festivals and religious ceremonies

ANCIENT CHINA Exercise and meditation were practised for fitness and health.

Ancient Greece/Athens
Education stressed the importance of the development of the whole person- body & mind Traditional subjects such as math, science,histroy,poetry,music,public speaking. Greek boys engaged in jumping, running boxing, wrestling, throwing javelin & discus. Used these sports for basic military training.

Dance continued to be emphasized.
Greeks began the Olympic games. These games were set up as a religious festival to honour the gods of Mount Olympus. The GAMES introduced three important developments: Spectators Full-time athletes Sporting heroes
