Each European nation had certain policies and goals for establishing their colonies. They all demanded influence over the social, political, and economic lives of their populations, but they used different techniques to control them. Indirect Control: Local government officials were used to rule Limited self-rule by the population Goal: to develop local future leaders Govt. based on European styles but may have some local rules
