1 Converting to Percentages
Grade 6 Fractions Unit

2 Re-cap... - What are equivalent fractions?
- What strategy(s) can you use to compare (<,>,=) fractions? - What strategy(s) can you use to order fractions

3 Compare the Following... ⅔ [] ¼ ⅜ [] ⅖ ⅙ [] ⅗

4 Order the following... ⅛, ¾, ½, ⅗

5 How would you convert a fraction into a decimal?
How would you convert a decimal into a fraction?

6 Convert the following... 0.3, 0.75 ¼ , ⅖

7 Converting to Decimal numbers into percentages
A percent is always out of 100, so when we are converting a decimal into a percent, what operant do you think we use? Hint, think about the value of decimal numbers.

8 If a percent is always out of 100, what do you think we would multiply the decimal number by?

9 Converting Decimals When converting a decimal number into a percent, you need to multiply the decimal number by 100. For example, 0.7x100= 70%

10 How many places did we move the decimal
0.7x100= 7 0

11 If we are moving two decimal places to convert a decimal into a percent, what percentage would this number convert to? 0.07?

12 Practise… Convert the following into a percentage: 0.74, 0.03, 0.67

13 Converting a Fraction into a Percent
- When converting a fraction into a percent, you need to divide the numerator by the denominator - That will give you a decimal number For example, ¼ would be 1÷4= 0.25 - What do you think the next step would be?

14 Next, you would multiply the decimal number by 100 in order to convert it into a percent

15 - If we need to multiply decimals by 100 to get a percent, what operant do you think we would use to convert a percent into a decimal?

16 Percents to Decimals and Fractions
- To convert a percent into a decimal, you divide the number by 100. - 70% ÷ 100 = 0.07

17 Once the number is in a decimal, you can put it in a fraction.
70% ÷ 100 = 0.7 0.7 = 70/100 = 7/10

18 - How do you convert a decimal into a percent?
