Mrs. Brown Maternity Leave
8th Week 3 Mrs. Brown Maternity Leave
2
Day 1: Volume of a Cylinder
When finding the volume of a cylinder use the following formula:
3
Example: V= 3.14(3)(3)(5) V= 141.3
4
Example On this example they give you a diameter, you will have to divide that in half since the formula calls for the radius: R= 5.5 V= 3.14(5.5)(5.5)(16) V=
5
Example A square bead has a cylinder shape cut out of the middle. If you want to find the volume of the bead, you will need to find the volume of each and subtract: The cube is 10X10X10 so its V=100 The cylinder has a diameter of 3, so its radius is 1.5 The Cylinders V=3.14(1.5)1.5(10) - they have the same height Of the cylinder is V=70.65 Therefore is we subtract the Volume of the bead is = 29.35
6
Example: When finding the volume of half a cylinder use the given formula and divide by 2! If the diameter is 10, the radius is 5! V= 3.14(5)(5)(12) =942/2= 471 Remember Volume is always in measurement cubed!
7
Practice P593 and 594 (1-6) All practice work may be done with your partner and with a calculator. If you are not behaving and focusing on the math, this privilege may be taken away by the teacher.
8
Day 2: Volume of a cone When finding the volume of a cone use the following formula:
9
Example: V= 1/3(3.14)(3)(3)(11) V=
10
Example In this example they give you the diameter of 18, so you will need to use the radius of 9. V= 1/3(3.14)(9)(9)(21) V=
11
Example When you have more than one figure you need to find the volume of each and then add them together! Cone: 1/3(3.14)(5)(5)(13) V=340.17 Cylinder= 3.14(5)(5)(2) V=157 Total: 497.17
12
Practice: P601 (1-8) All practice work may be done with your partner and with a calculator. If you are not behaving and focusing on the math, this privilege may be taken away by the teacher.
13
Day 3: Volume of a Sphere When Finding the Volume of a Sphere Use the following Formula:
14
Exmaple: V= 4/3(3.14)(2)(2)(2) V=
15
Example: On this example is gives you the diameter of 45, so you will need to cut that in half and use the radius of V= 4/3(3.14)(22.5)(22.5)(22.5) V=
16
Example: Half of a Sphere is also called a Hemisphere. You would find the Volume and divide by 2! V= 4/3(3.14)(6)(6)(6) V= /2 V=452.16
17
Practice: P 609 (1-9) All practice work may be done with your partner and with a calculator. If you are not behaving and focusing on the math, this privilege may be taken away by the teacher.

Day 4: Review Watch the following videos:
19
Practice P595 (10-14) P603 (15-20) P611 (19-22)
All practice work may be done with your partner and with a calculator. If you are not behaving and focusing on the math, this privilege may be taken away by the teacher.
