STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE QUEEN to PRINCESS Facilitator: Welcome!
You have chosen to attend today’s Officer Training because you want to learn more about Daughters of the Nile. When you are an Officer in a Temple, you are the person the members look to for guidance and authority. You must be able to answer all of the members’ questions. Are you expected to memorize all of the rules, regulations and procedures of Daughters of the Nile? (Pause) No. It is okay to say “I don’t know, but I will find out and get back to you.” Just be sure to follow-up with the information. It is important to know where to find the answers. There are many resources available. When you become familiar with these books, you will gain the confidence to become a respected and successful leader! PRINCESS

PROTOCOL STEP 4 FORMAL INTRODUCTIONS
Facilitator: In Step Four of the training: “The Supreme Queen is Coming………Oh, My!!” we will learn what is contained in the Protocol section of the green binder.
4
What is in the Green Binder?
Bylaws Protocol Manual of Procedures Facilitator: Today we are looking at the Protocol section in the green binder…
5
What is Protocol? Facilitator: What is Protocol? The dictionary states that protocol are customs and rules. It is a form of etiquette: the courtesies and good manners which are extended to our leaders. When we recognize Honored Guests to our Temple, it is not only required, but also an act of welcome and hospitality. When the Supreme Queen comes to visit, additional dignitaries tend to visit
6
Formal Introductions Facilitator: Formal Introductions are mandatory at the Official Visit of the Supreme Queen and the Installation of Officers. Formal Introductions are done immediately following the Opening Ceremonies. Formal Introductions are not required at Stated Sessions. Dignitaries can be introduced at their seats in the Temple. This directive is found in Protocol on P-4 (2013.3). (Give the participants time to read the reference in Protocol.)
7
The Supreme Queen is Coming…
Oh, My. Facilitator: Let us imagine that we are preparing for the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit to our Temple and Ceremonial. “The Supreme Queen is coming…Oh, My.” is often said with dreadful anticipation. Today we will learn how to prepare for the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit by acquiring the knowledge of Formal Introductions.
8
Supreme Queen’s Official Visit
Facilitator: The preparation begins with knowing who is coming. How do you know? The Princess Recorder, or Reigning Queen, or the reservationist for the banquet is usually notified. Most members of visiting Temples will let you know they are coming and should do so. Some make it a surprise! You have to be prepared for unexpected guests. The information that is necessary in order to follow protocol is the dignitary’s name, title, Temple name and number, city, and state, or province. Once you have a list of who is coming, the next question is: “Where do they sit?”
9
Where do They Sit? Where would you go to find the answer? Would you ask the Princess Recorder, your Temple Advisor, or a Past Queen? Would you find the answer in the Bylaws, the Manual of Procedures, Protocol, or Floor Charts for Subordinate Temples? (Pause and allow time for the participants to give answers.) Facilitator: Yes, answers to protocol questions are found in this green binder under the tab: Protocol. (Hold up the green binder.) Let us open the green binder, find the tab for Protocol, and look at the Contents or Index. In what section will we find how to recognize our dignitaries? (Pause to allow time for the participants to give answers.) Facilitator: Information about Formal Introductions is found in Section III. Is there another resource book where we might find information about Formal Introductions? (Pause and allow time for the participants to give answers.) Facilitator: Floor Charts for Subordinate Temples has a chapter titled, Escort & Introductions of Distinguished Members. Let us look at the top of Page 31. Where are the dignitaries seated? (Pause and allow time for the participants to give answers.) Facilitator: The Honored Guests are seated on the Throne side of Princess Tirzah. Since you have a list of how many dignitaries are coming to the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit and Ceremonial, you can arrange enough chairs, plus some extra for the “surprises” by using the room diagram on Page 32. It is helpful, especially at the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit, to have name tags on the chairs to designate the seating. Prepare these ahead of time and be prepared for a surprise or two. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
10
Who Sits Where? Facilitator: We have learned where to seat the Honored Guests, but how do you know who sits where? (Pause and allow time for the participants to give answers.)
11
Temple Seating Highest Rank Lowest Rank
PSQ TO TO Facilitator: The Honored Guests are seated together in rank order from highest to lowest, which means that the Supreme Queen is seated closest to Princess Tirzah’s station and the remaining dignitaries sit in rank order to her right. Let us do a simple exercise in determining rank order from highest to lowest using the Elective Officers of a Temple. Who would like to volunteer for this activity? I need six (6) volunteers to come forward and stand in a line. (Pause to give time for the volunteers to get in position. Distribute the name badges randomly for the six (6) Temple Elective Officers.) PQ
12
Activity One Facilitator: For this activity, we will determine who has the highest rank of the Officers and have her stand in line first, then the next highest rank will stand next to her, and so on, until all are placed in rank order of highest to lowest. (The participants will guide the volunteers to get in line with the Queen first, followed by the Princess Royal, Princess Tirzah, Princess Badoura, Princess Recorder, and finally the Princess Banker) Facilitator: We have just arranged the Temple’s Elective Officers in rank order. Thank you. You may return to your seats. (Pause until they are seated.)
13
Section III Formal Introductions
Supreme Temple Protocol Facilitator: Let us look at Section III, Formal Introductions in Protocol. On page P-5 (2013.3), it states that the Supreme Temple Order of Introductions begins with the Supreme Queen. She is the highest ranking Officer and is followed by the Past Supreme Queens. At the bottom of P-6 (2013.3), the ranking list continues. This is the rank order that is used to determine the seating for our Supreme Queen’s Official Visit and Ceremonial. Supreme Temple Appointees are members who are recognized by the Supreme Queen for their dedication to Daughters of the Nile. The Supreme Princess Royal, in anticipation of recognizing members for her year of reign, has the privilege to make these appointments. Standing Committees and Special Committees are ranked in alphabetical order. Which committee member would be introduced first: Bylaws of Subordinate Temples Committee or the Jurisprudence Committee? (Pause for an answer.) Facilitator: “B” comes before “J” in the alphabet. The Appointee who is a member of the Bylaws of Subordinate Temples Committee would be introduced before the member of the Jurisprudence Committee.
14
Activity Two Facilitator: Now we are going to do an activity of assigning seating for our Honored Guests. The Honored Guests attending today’s Ceremonial are: Supreme Queen Past Supreme Queen Supreme Princess Tirzah Supreme Attendant Supreme Temple Banner Bearer Supreme Temple Action Team Committee Supreme Temple Finance Committee Supreme Temple Website Committee Supreme Temple Canadian Flag Escort Supreme Temple American Flag Escort in Canada Supreme Temple American Flag Escort Supreme Temple Canadian Flag Escort in United States (Randomly distribute name tags to the participants. As a group, determine the seating based on the rank order in the Protocol section. Each takes her appropriate seat.) Facilitator: Another purpose of having the Honored Guests seated in order is to expedite the Formal Introductions. When the Princess Marshal is instructed to present the dignitaries, they stand at their seats and are already in rank order to be presented for introductions.
15
West of the Altar Facilitator: Let us look in the green binder again under the tab for Protocol. On pages P-5 and P-6 (2013.3), we see that there are two different methods of presenting dignitaries: West of the Altar, which is reserved for the Supreme Queen and Past Supreme Queens
16
Behind the Station of Princess Zenobia
and Behind the Station of Princess Zenobia, where the Princess Marshal presents ALL other Honored Guests. Facilitator: There are some occasions where guests are introduced from their seats and are not conducted to the Throne and introduced. Let us look at pages P-8 and P-9 (2013.3) for examples of this protocol. Who would like to give us an example of someone introduced from her seat in the Temple? (Call on several volunteers to share their answers.)
17
Daughters of the Nile FOUNDATION
Facilitator: Just as the Supreme Queen determines the Supreme Temple Appointees, the Daughters of the Nile Foundation chooses members to serve the Foundation and its committees. These honored appointments are recognized (1) by the Presiding Officer from the guests’ seats in the Temple, (2) announced in addition to the Supreme Temple appointment, (3) by the Past Queen at the time of her self-introduction, or (4) by a Princess from the guests’ seats in the Temple. Facilitator: Learning a new procedure, such as Daughters of the Nile Protocol, may seem scary. By following the step-by-step process outlined in the Protocol, you will master the order for Formal Introductions. Remember practice makes perfect. The more often your Temple uses Formal Introductions at its Stated Sessions, the more relaxed, you will be when you have your Installation of Officers or when the Supreme Queen comes to visit.
18
Where Who How Facilitator: Today we have learned WHERE to seat the dignitaries in the Temple and WHO the dignitaries are in the Temple. Now, we will learn HOW to introduce them.
19
PRESENT CONDUCT INTRODUCING
K E Y W O R D S PRESENT CONDUCT INTRODUCING Facilitator: The two words to use that make the introductions easy are “PRESENT and CONDUCT.” At the beginning of introductions, the Presiding Officer gives the Princess Marshal the command to PRESENT (the title of the group to be introduced). Princess Marshal is presenting, which means: “showing someone.” Princess Marshal is presenting or showing them for introductions. After the Presiding Officer welcomes the group, she commands the Princess Marshal to CONDUCT (the title of the group to be introduced) to the Throne. Princess Marshal is conducting, which means: “leading the way.” She is conducting or leading them to the Throne. You can find the script of words used for Formal Introductions by the Presiding Officer and the Princess Marshal on P-5 – P-7 (2013.3).
20
PRESENTING SUPREME QUEEN
Marshal you will present Pr. Marshal, you will PRESENT her Supreme Majesty. Your Your Majesty, I have the honor of PRESENTING her Supreme Majesty, (Say her name). (Read the slide.) No other words are used. We do not say “behind the Altar” or “for introduction.” Once the Supreme Queen is standing behind the Altar, the Queen chooses her own words to welcome the Supreme Queen.
21
CONDUCTING SUPREME QUEEN
Marshal you will present Pr. Marshal, you will CONDUCT her Supreme Majesty to the Throne. Marshal you will present Ladies of the Household, I have the honor of INTRODUCING her Supreme Majesty, (Say her name), the Supreme Queen of the Supreme Temple, Daughters of the Nile. Introductions can flow very nicely if the Queen is confident is what she has to say and the order in which she says things. The Queens says: (Read the slide.) Princess Marshal states the dignitary’s name(s) when she presents the Past Supreme Queen(s) west of the Altar.
22
Salutation Sign or Supreme Honors?
Facilitator: Supreme Honors shall be given ONLY WHEN REQUESTED by the Queen or Supreme Queen. Let us look at the bottom of Page Three (3) in the Floor Charts for Subordinate Temples. This is the reference for giving Supreme Honors. Facilitator: Once the Supreme Temple Honored Guests are introduced and given honors, they are seated on the Throne to the right of the Presiding Officer: the Supreme Queen or the Queen. If a Reigning Queen is visiting, she is introduced and invited to remain on the Throne, if space is available. She is seated to the left of the Junior Past Queen.
23
Activity Three Facilitator: Let us practice what we have learned by compiling a list of Honored Guests visiting your Temple. (Distribute the handout for Activity 3. Give the participants approximately five (5) minutes to complete the activity. When it appears that the majority have completed the task, review the answers by asking for volunteers and using the answer key for the correct responses.) Facilitator: Congratulations for completing Activity 3.
24
The Supreme Queen is coming…
Oh, My!! Now instead of saying with dread, “The Supreme Queen is Coming…Oh My.” It can be said with excitement and anticipation “The Supreme Queen is Coming…Oh My!!”
25
Facilitator: Now, I would like to celebrate the knowledge you have acquired today by having you take a Quiz. Yes, a Quiz! You will soon discover that you know all of the answers or know where to find the answers in the Protocol. You may use the Protocol section of the green binder. (Distribute the Quiz.) Give the participants approximately five (5) minutes to complete the Quiz. When it appears that the majority have completed the Quiz, review the answers by asking for volunteers and using the answer key for the correct responses.)
