Humans have lived on earth for more than a million years. Writing was not invented until about 5,000 years ago. The time before writing was called prehistory. Mary and Louis Leakey The first bones found belonged to an Australopithecus.

Hominids and Early Humans
Hominids appeared about 3 million years ago. Louis Leakey-1960’s Homo erectus- 1.5 million years ago. The first modern humans appeared in Africa about 200,000 years ago. Homo sapiens 4 major groups of hominids

Stone Age The first human and ancestors lived during a time period called the Stone Age. The Stone Age is divided into 3 periods based on the tools the people used. Paleolithic Era-Old Stone Age

As early humans developed tools and new hunting techniques, they formed societies. Early humans lived in small groups. Early humans of the Stone Age were hunter-gatherers. Responsibilities of men and women.
