Key SIIT Facts and Figures
SIIT is an official IEEE conference for first time in 2013. IEEE has been a technical co-sponsor several times. SIIT 2013 to be hosted by ETSI in Sophia-Antipolis September Attendees geographically diverse. Conference draws about 100. Organizers believe more attendees likely under IEEE. Diverse set of academic, government and corporate reps. Industry participation and sponsorship: Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Adobe, RIM Publication of SIIT papers on Xplore in past and future.

Conference Quality Assessment – Scope
SIIT has always contained at least four program categories: Policy and regulations Standards case studies ICT standards Innovation & standardization research and methodologies A fifth category will be added in 2013: Standards education SEC has been asked to develop a half-day program.

Why is SIIT a good thing? Value Proposition of bringing SIIT to IEEE:
SIIT presents an opportunity for IEEE-SA to start positioning itself as a leader in scholarly activities in the area of standards and innovation research; as the place to go to for discussion on academic, industrial, and policy issues related to standards and innovation. Value Proposition for IEEE SEC involvement: The beneficiaries of standards-related research are part of our target audience: academic researchers and academic faculty Many are represented at SIIT (23 universities at SIIT 2011) European branch of Standards Education is heavily represented in SIIT. Aligning the discipline of “Research in Standards and Innovation” and its practitioners with IEEE SEC can drive other related activities. Publications, e.g., “IEEE Transactions in Standards and Innovation Research” Educational activities: webinars; university syllabus development; conference tutorial add-ons; certificate courses
