1 Learning Map for Year 2: Autumn 2 2018 Santa’s workshop
Phonics and speaking and listening Phonics: Children to continue developing their knowledge of phonics through reading aloud and with peers. Present and past tense work. Children to develop and focus on grammar through reading, writing and speaking. Children to discuss and ask relevant questions about the body. Children to learn how to decode and recognise words through blending and segmenting sounds. Story writing Children to continue creating stories applying a 5 part story mountain to sequence it. Also, pupils to learn skills to write instructions and letters. Children to retell a story through writing and drama. Grammar: To improve natural flow and rhythm in their writing by using conjunctions to link clauses. Also, pupils to learn how to use commas for lists. Where Is The Light of Christmas? Learn about Christians call Jesus the light of the world. Also, pupils to know that the Wise Men were guided by the light of a star so they could visit the new baby king. Children to continue using the Scratch software. At the end of the term children should be able to create their own animation program. Literacy Swimming Outdoor games Participating in team games, relay races and throwing and catching Developing netball skills through outdoor games. Computing Year 2 Santa’s workshop Reading Children to read a variety of texts and to apply their phonics skills to their reading. Focus on improving reading fluency and comprehension skills, RE PE Art PSHE Our local area Maths To develop teamwork skills require to work cooperatively with others towards a shared purpose. Art/DT Children to create poppy paintings and collages. Also, children to create snowflakes, applying painting and fine motor skills. We will be supporting children's muscle development. Also, imagination and experimentation by creating own design. Science Place value: focus on developing a good understanding of place value, comparing and ordering numbers to 100, including ordinal numbers. Addition and subtraction: Adding and subtracting smaller 2-digit numbers to and from larger ones. Position and direction (length): Understanding the vocabulary associated with position and movement and then comparing and measuring lengths using cm and m. Using money in calculations: Counting in uniform steps, using coins to help us create sequences and find totals. Geography Children to identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom. Also, to compare weather patterns between UK and hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles . Living things in their habitats Describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify the sources of different food. Identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other. Local Area visit History Children to learn about changes within living memory and events beyond living memory. They will create a timeline to show how toys have changed over time.
