Exploring Cultural Identity
Turn to page 11 in your textbook. Reminder of the during reading directions: Highlight information that helps to define the concept of cultural identity. Then use your reader/ writer notebook to consolidate a list of all the cultural terms and elements introduced or discussed in this text.

After you are done reading
On a blank sheet of paper: Go back through the text and answer the three Key Ideas and Details questions that are located in the margins of the text. Then answer the after reading questions, write a response to the writing prompt (1 paragraph), then write a response to the check for understanding (complete sentences).

Grammar Practice Commas vs Semicolons
Commas are mostly used to separate one independent clause and one dependent clause. Example: I wanted to relax, but I had to do some work first. Semicolons are used to separate two related independent clauses. Example: I know you don’t like broccoli; nevertheless it is very good for you. Hint: There are 5 commas & 5 semicolons.
