Words that are used to connect the two independent clauses so they make sense
FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)

I walked to school; Jack took the bus

The semicolon is able to do the same job as a connective
We usually use this type of sentence when both the independent clauses are talking about the same topic (in the example above, it is about how to get to school

4. A few more examples I like to eat cake; Bob is on a diet
I support New South Wales; I am used to losing
It will take ninety minutes to get to the Sunshine Coast; it is only sixty to the Gold Coast
