2. Internal Conflict takes place in a character’s own mind

3. Man vs. Self
The most powerful conflict arises when a character must overcome a part of themselves to reach their goal. It could be part of their history or a fear. A man struggling to overcome his fear of heights before he skydives out of a plane would be an example of Man vs. Self.

4. External Conflict
Includes a struggle with an outside source 4

5. Man vs. Man
A simple fight is man vs. man. This could be a physical confrontation or emotional one.
A boy in love with a girl is a man vs. man conflict even though there is no fighting involved.

6. Man vs. Machine
What's that? Your hero must get to work but his car won't start? That's man vs. machine. Your hero accidentally washed his lightsaber with his clothes and now it only extents 5 inches? That's man vs. machine.

7. Man vs. Nature
There's an earthquake. A rainstorm. A huge mountain. A snowstorm. It's cold. It's hot. A huge boulder starts coming after Indiana Jones. Man vs. nature is a natural thing that affects us all.

8. Man vs. Environment
This conflict involves someone being faced with an obstacle that has is man- made. If a man in a wheelchair is trying to get up to the 4th floor of a building the elevator is broken, he is in a Man vs. Environment conflict.

9. Man vs. Society
No one wants to help Bruce Wayne in his fight for revenge? He must stand alone and try to convince the members of his personal "society" to help him. (Or at least to not stop him.)
Man vs. Society is when there is one character against a whole group of people.

10. Man vs. Supernatural
The most common example of this conflict would be a person in conflict with a ghost or spirit of some sort. Most horror stories involve a Man vs. Supernatural conflict. It can also be a conflict between man and a higher power.
