Cells Organelles 9-17 Page 43
2
9. Mitochondria Found in all eukaryotes. Energy producing organelle.
Converts oxygen (O2) and glucose (C6H12O6) into ATP
3
10. Ribosomes Found in all cells. Synthesize proteins.
4
11. Microtubules Small tubes that make up the cytoskeleton-supports cell and provides shape. Aids movement of materials in and out of cells.
5
12. Cilia Small, hair-like projections surrounding the cell. Used to move the cell.
6
13. Flagella Whip-like tail used to move the cell.
7
14. Vacuole Found in all eukaryotes.
Very large in plant cells- CENTRAL VACUOLE Small organelles in animal cells. Storage area for water and nutrients.
8
15. Chloroplast Found only in plant cells. Site of photosynthesis.
Contains the pigment chlorophyll. Appears green
9
16.Cell Wall Plant cell walls are composed of cellulose-a starch.
Bacterial cell walls are composed of peptidoglycan. Adds structure and support to the cell. ANIMAL CELLS DO NOT CONTAIN A CELL WALL!
10
17. Centrioles - Paired cylindrical organelles near nucleus - Composed of microtubules - Involved in cellular division ***ONLY FOUND IN ANIMAL CELLS
