Elements gain new properties when they bond to form compounds.
Compounds can only be separated chemically.
A reaction must occur and energy must be involved to separate the elements in a compound.

4. Mixtures A mixture is two or more items placed together.
The parts of a mixture retain their own properties.
Mixtures can be separated by physical means.

5. Types of mixtures
Heterogeneous Mixtures: the different parts in the mixture can easily be seen.
Homogenous Mixtures: the different parts in the mixture can’t be seen.
Solution: a mixture that is dissolved in a liquid.
