The Question? Does the color of water affect its evaporation rate?
3
My Awesome Background I chose this project because it sounded really interesting when parents told me about it. It made me really ask if the color of water affected the evaporation rate. I also chose this because it will help me in future experiments in science.
4
My Hypothesis My hypothesis is that if I add yellow coloring to the water then it will evaporate the quickest!
5
Conclusion Does the color of water affect the evaporation rate? In this project I took 5 jars and filled them with 1 ½ cups of water, and added food coloring. Then after every week I measured how much was in every jar. My total data ended up having, 8.45 in Green, 8.75 in Blue, 8 in Yellow, 8.43 in Red, and 8.65 in clear. My hypothesis was that if i used yellow food coloring then the water would evaporate the most. My data supported my hypothesis because yellow had the least amount of water left in it. I learned that the lightest color of water evaporated the most. A big problem i could’ve fixed is putting the jars into more sunlight. Next time I could put the jars in the front room where there is more light.
6
Variables My independent variable is the color of water.
My dependent variable is how much water is in the jars.
7
Procedures Fill the water in a jar (5) Add food coloring
Put in a window where light can reach it Then keep measuring each week Finally record your information
