The Cognitive (a.k.a coooooooognitive) Approach To Psychopathology
BY AYUB AND HARKAMALPREET AND HASSRET
2
Strengths The cognitive model offers a useful approach to disorders like depression and anorexia. This is because it considers the role of thoughts and beliefs which are greatly involved in problems like depression. Cognitive therapies have often succesfully treated depression, stress, and eating disorder. It allows a person to take control and make a positive change to their behaviour
3
Weaknesses (good grammar is important here)
Faulty cognitions may simply be the consequence of a disorder rather than its cause. For example, depression may be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain which may cause people to think negatively Cognitive therapies may take a long time and are costly Work better with some conditions than with others The person could feel he or she is to blame
