AKA, how to really, really piss off a bunch of colonists

2 Create a timeline using the whole side of the paper
Add the following information:

3 1763 Britain beats France in the French and Indian War
Signs the Proclamation of 1763, which stops settlement West of the Appalachians

4 1764 Sugar Act: taxes sugar (since it doesn’t come from Britain)
Allows suspected smugglers to be tried without a jury

5 1765 Stamp Act: requires a stamp to be bought for the purchase of any paper good

6 1767 Townshend Acts: taxes on a bunch of different goods

7 1770 Boston Massacre: five colonists killed by Brits after protest turns violent

8 1773 Tea Act: Allows British East India Company the sole right to sell tea in colonies Boston Tea Party: 90,000 pounds of tea in the harbor!

9 1774 Intolerable Acts: closed Boston Harbor, places Boston under military rule, forces colonists to allow redcoats into their homes

10 1775 Fighting at Lexington and Concord: we shoot a bunch of redcoats (200!)

11 1776 Declaration of Independence signed on July 4th

Was Britain violating the colonist’s natural rights? Was it necessary for Britain to resort to violence? Why or why not? Overall, were the colonists wrong to seek independence?
