Frontal Lobe Pruning Pruning- the loss of unwanted/unused connections between neurons leads to the strengthening of existing connections between neurons. The last part of the brain to be pruned during adolescence is the frontal lobes, which enable executive function and good decision-making. This explains why teens can be impulsive and/or make poor decisions or fail to understand the long-term consequences of their actions.
