Polynesian oral narratives were based on:
The creation of the universe
Gods of nature
Origins of human life
Culture heroes
Early navigators
Famous canoes
Local tribal traditions.
This oral tradition spanned many generations and was retained in the memory of special priests.

2. Creation Traditions
The most common creation story was of the marriage between a Skyfather and Earthmother who are born of the gods of nature, the sun, moon, planets, stars and all life.
Each island had their own variation of the story and the name of the gods.
