1 Chapter 7 Times of Turmoil: Canada in the 1960's and 1970's

2 Chapter Focus Question:  How did Canada's political,social, and economic policies reflect a new independence in the 1960's and 1970's. Use chart Pg Add the chart to your notes and add info as you progress through the chapter.

3 Learning Outcomes--Today you will learn about how changing social norms, and government policies affected woman,youth, immigrants and aboriginals and the general population. 

4 Topics of Social Change:

5 Task 1: You will be assigned a topic.
Read your section- As you do identify at least 3 or 4 government or other new social changes for your topic. Eg.  Aboriginals-- White Paper.. Task 2:  Determine the affects of this program or new norm... Eg Aboriginals-White Paper-- They were furious at the recommendations ending special status..Responded with Red Paper

6 Task 3-- Join Larger Group representing all. 
Present your main points to your group... Your group will assigned one of the topics to present to the class after you have all presented.. One persons work will be handed in....as a representative for your group..

25 Task 1  : Read about either the Cuban Missile Crisis or Vietnam War...
Identify while reading:(1) the cause of the war and (2)Canada's position  Task 2 You will be put into groups with people of the same topic. Fill out GLM -9  Together Task 3-You will be assigned to either defend Canada's choice or argue against it...Your group must develop arguements with reasons supporting them that defend your position..

26 Task 4- Debate: You will each listen to the other sides arguements.. You must also write down their ideas... You can then debate verbally each others . Task 5-- You must write down your own opinion in a short paragraph- Include: 1.Thesis Statement-Your Opinion 2.Two reasons- with supporting information.. 3.Concluding sentence summarizing.. 4.How did these choices affect our growing autonomy?

31 Join a partner-- With your partner expand your list.. Make a good copy... After you are finished read the quote by Trudeau again on page 234.. In your opinion  what was Trudeau  really trying to say? How do his policies you wrote down support his statement?
