Federalists Hamilton, Jay, Adams Rich, well-born, old aristocracy, large land owners, businessmen North (industrial) Gov’t should be run by rich & well educated Sided with British Supported Hamilton’s Plan, tarrif & excise tax Democratic-Republicans Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Burr Farmers, poor, plantation owners South (agricultural) Gov’t run by the “common man” Sided with French Believed Hamilton’s plan favored the rich
