Social Studies 7 Global Issues Photo Essay Assignment Cross-Curricular

Photo Essay… After hearing and thinking about global issues/concerns/problems/challenges facing our world today, narrow down a list of topics that interest you. Ultimately, you will select one as your topic of focus Decide whether you wish to work alone or with a partner. View examples of Photos essays. (in class)

Photo Essay… Directions:
1. Create a slide show of photos/images to represent your theme and to communicate your theme to others. (Google Slides!) *It is not required but you may include video clips and sound effects/audio if they enhance the communicability of your theme. *You will be searching for impactful/powerful images but they need to be appropriate and fitting to your topic/context

Photo Essay… 2. Prepare a informative, well-written facts to accompany each image. (Research) *You will use your captions to explain the purpose/meaning of each image when you present and to teach the class about your topic. *Your captions need to be written in a separate Word document. ** The caption should NOT be seen when presenting, just heard!!

Photo Essay… You must document /cite your research sources. You will create an informal Bibliography to list your sources/websites. *Remember to think about the credibility of the facts and information you locate. Remember, you cannot trust everything you read online!!

Photo Essay… 3. Finally… A) You must offer solutions to your global issue… how to help, what we can do, etc. B) You must wrap up your essay/presentation by making connections to us as Atlantic Canadians using the six themes of interdependence. In other words, how does your global issue impact Atlantic Canada politically, environmentally, socially, culturally, technologically, and economically? (Do your best to make connections to each theme… depending on your topic, you may or not be able to link to all six… but try!) (Ask for help in class.)
