3. The Social Study Theme in The book
The social study themes I used in the book are names in different cultures and identity.
I chose this theme because I see this issues in early childhood sittings many times. Many times I heard some of students saying “ why my name is too long and many people don’t know how to say it?”
For my math connection, children will practice to count how many letters are in their names. The children will also practice “more” and “less” as they compare their names together.

4. My Picture Book Why Khansaa?
Ones up on a time there was a girl who lives in Africa. Her dad got a new job and she has to move with her family to a new country far away from Africa.

5. She was so happy to go to her new school and meet new friends. However….

6. Everything looks really confusing to her
Everything looks really confusing to her. There are many names that she needs to remember and even new rules to follow.

7. When it is time for her to share her name during circle time, all the children in the classroom made fun of her name. They said that’s the weird name they ever heard which made her really sad.

8. She went home really sad and blamed her mom why did she named her with this weird name. She told her mom that her friends made fun of her name.

9. Her mom showed her a world map and explained to her that the world is too big for people to have chances to know each others. however, if she shared the meaning of her name, her friends will be happy to learn about it.

10. Next Day, Khansaa shared the meaning of her name with her friends
Next Day, Khansaa shared the meaning of her name with her friends. She said that her name means the eyes of the wild cow that were considered beautiful and strong. Her friends learned that her name is a famous name in Arabian cultures. Her friends were so curious to know about the meaning of their names.

11. The teacher told the children that they can show and share the meaning of their name next day.

12. When the next morning came, everyone wrote and share his or her name
When the next morning came, everyone wrote and share his or her name. they also counted and compare the alphabets in their names. Everyone was so proud of his or her name even Khansaa.

13. Reflection
I had a great time creating this book. As I was creating the book, I was paying more attention to my vocabulary and asked myself if is it appropriate from my targeted age group. Because my targeted age group was 4 to 6 years old, I tried to choose simple vocabulary that everyone can understand. I also paid close attention to the pictures that I chose. I tried to match them with what the text sees because I want it to be adapted for dual children so they still can understand the books .
I was able to read the book to my nieces (8,6,4 years old) and they really enjoyed it. We ended up with a long discussion where they were asking me about the meaning of their names. I told them the meaning of each name and my younger niece was saying that she is going to share the meaning of her name with her preschool teacher.
