Energy Energy

There are 2 types of energy, but each comes in many unique forms.
Energy is simply the ability to do work. Energy has the ability to apply force over distance. And a lot of things can do this…….. Sometimes energy is stored, sometimes it is transferred. There are 2 types of energy, but each comes in many unique forms. KINETIC ENERGY Kinetic energy is motion––of waves, electrons, atoms, molecules, substances, and objects. POTENTIAL ENERGY Potential energy is stored energy and the energy of position––gravitational energy. There are several forms of potential energy.

Types of Energy K E P E Thermal Energy -Heat produced by the movement of molecules in a substance. Electrical Energy – The flow or discharge of electrons. Radiant Energy – Travels along waves on the electromagnetic spectrum. Sound Energy – Vibrations caused by waves moving through a substance. Magnetic Energy – The attraction or repulsion of charged objects. Mechanical Energy – The movement or motion of objects or substances from one area to another. Nuclear Energy - The force holding the nucleus of an atom together. Chemical Energy – The energy stored in bonds between atoms and molecules of substances. Gravitational Energy – The energy that mass is given from gravity. On Earth, this is the ability to fall. Stored Mechanical Energy - When an applied force stores energy in an object until it is released.

Which form of energy does each image best represent or demonstrate?
Hint: There are 2 for each form!

This principle is known as The Law of Conservation of Energy.
As you should know, Energy can never be created or destroyed, it can only change form. This principle is known as The Law of Conservation of Energy. For Example, energy from the Sun doesn’t disappear when it helps a plant grow, instead, it becomes stored in the plant. When you eat the plant, the energy doesn’t disappear either, it gets stored in your body until it is converted into another form of energy. Does this mean that we are all solar powered? Yes, according to the Law of Conservation of Energy. But where does the sun get it’s energy from?
