1. The Machine
Milling Machines are used for many things, from making gear teeth to cutting slots and planing (flattening) surfaces
This one is called a Horizontal Mill because the arbor or shaft used to hold the cutters is horizontal

2. Vertical Milling Machine
This one is called a vertical mill because the spindle is vertical.
The head is able to swivel and the table is in a fixed position.
End mill cutters are used with this type of milling machine.
Some of the common types of operation performed by this mill are cutting keyways, T-slots, dovetails and facing.

3. Moving the Table Horizontally
Use the longitudinal feed crank at the end of the table to move the work left and right.
Use the transverse feed crank to move the work in and out.
Check to see that locks are not tightened before moving the table.

4. Moving the Table Vertically
Use the Vertical feed crank to raise and lower the table.
Use the calibrations on the crank collar to get the exact amount
Loosen the lock before moving the table.

5. Speeds and Feeds Rpm = 4 x CS \ D CS = Cutting Speed
D = Diameter of cutter
Rpm = 4 x 200 \ 2
= 400
Feed = N x cpt x Rpm
N = Number of Teeth
cpt = Chip per tooth
Feed = 4 x x 400
=19.2 in. / min
