1 Interpreting position vs time graphs
Honors physics

2 Constant velocity To begin, consider a car moving with a constant, rightward (+) velocity - say of +10 m/s.

3 increasing velocity (acceleration)
Now consider a car moving with a rightward (+), changing velocity - that is, a car that is moving rightward but speeding up or accelerating.

4 Slow and fast constant velocity
Fast Rightward (+) Constant Velocity Slow Rightward (+) Constant Velocity Steep  large slope Shallow  small slope

5 Slow and fast constant velocity
Fast Leftward (-) Constant Velocity Slow Leftward (-) Constant Velocity Steep  large slope Shallow  small slope

6 Accelerated motion Negative (-) Velocity Slow to Fast
Leftward (-) Velocity Fast to Slow

7 Let’s Analyze a graph First the car drove east on the street at 5 m/s for 5 seconds. After driving for 25 meters, the car suddenly stopped and remained at rest for 5 more seconds.

8 Let’s write a story (LS)
Analyze the graph and write a story that matches up with the motion described by it. Be prepared to share your story with the class.
