1. What is an ATOM?
Definition: An atom the smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element
Humans, books, desks, cars, are all collections of atoms!
 Without atoms, we would not exist…..there would just be empty space!

1. Protons have positive charge (+)
 Located in the center of an atom (called the nucleus)
2. Neutrons have zero (neutral) charge
 Also located in the center of an atom (the other half of the nucleus)

4. What is a Compound? Hydrogen and Oxygen!  H2O
Definition: When two or more atoms combine together, they make a particle called a compound
For example, a molecule of water is a combination of 2 different atoms.

 You’re full of water molecules!!
