Directions: Complete the Word Map as we just practiced. Use the list of words below. Use your own brain for synonyms and antonyms. Turn in your Word Map to the indicated location. Get a laptop. Complete this week’s Achieve: Hard Times. Complete last week’s Achieve: Getting by on Lean Times if you didn’t complete it last week. Continue working backwards in time for your Achieves. 1. assure – to pledge or promise; guarantee 5. acquire – to get something new 2. expose – to uncover; to reveal 6. exclusion – the process of being left out 3. distort – made to appear different, usually negatively 7. possess – to own or have something 4. obligation – a responsibility or duty 8. injustice – something that isn’t fair

Objective: Say & use grade-level vocabulary from Princess of the Press correctly. Vocab Conversation Directions: Everyone must write, and read their own material. The vocab word(s) should be pronounced & used correctly. Make the conversation sound authentic.

It’s like he doesn’t even understand the amount of lethargy we feel from his neverending lectures.” 2. “I know! I can’t believe how much we have to sit there and just... just... LISTEN to his life stories that half the time don’t even inadvertently relate to what we’re learning. Did you hear the one about his poodle and the Civil War?” 3. “Naw man, I took a nap that day. But for real, those assignments are just so inane. I mean, how many more times am I going to have to do a fill-in-the- blank? Seriously? It’s like we’ve regressed back to the 3rd grade.” 4. “Oh come on, guys. At least he’s trying. If you decide you’re going to fritter away your education, that’s your decision. Directions: Count off 1-8 around the room. Sit under your number. Get a Vocab Conversation sheet. Use your Word Map to figure out a Topic of Conversation. Assign each student in your group a role to create your unique conversation. (Student 1, Student 2…) Each student will write their own part of the conversation. Each student’s script should look identical to everyone else’s in your team.
