Look at the following sentences:
1. The man paints the house every summer. (Present Tense) 2. The man painted the house yesterday. (Past Tense) 3. The man has painted the house. (Present Perfect Tense)

Present Perfect Tense Made up of:
“ have /has” + past participle form of verb Present eat write Past ate wrote Present participle eating writing Past Participle eaten written “has/have” + eaten + “has/have” ate /eat/eating ×

When do we use the Present Perfect Tense?
PAST EXPERIENCES (you don´t say exactly when): I have been to China but I haven´t to Mexico. She has never had a boyfriend. Have you ever met a famous person? RECENT PAST EXPERIENCES: I´ve cut my finger. He has just finished his homework.

WITH “YET” AND “ALREADY”:
Have you finished yet? I´ve already prepared the lunch. Shall we eat? UNFINISHED STATES WHICH START IN THE PAST AND ARE STILL TRUE. I have lived in Seville for one month and a half. How long have you been married? Since 2004.

Present Perfect or Past Simple?
Use the Present Perfect when there is a connection between the past and the present. Use the Past Simple to talk about finished actions in the past, when the time is mentioned. We often use past time expressions: January, last week, yesterday…

Examples I´ve been to Madrid twice. (in my life up to now)
I went to Madrid in (on a specific occasion) How long have you been married? (you´re still married) How long were you married? (you´re not married now) I´ve bought a new computer. (I don´t say when) I bought a new computer on Monday. (I say when)
