Knows the difference between national and state/local governments. Knows that types of actions a government can do with the power granted to it. Prior knowledge in American History regarding government. Module 1 Subordinate Skills: Government Powers Prior knowledge in World History regarding government What does it mean for the government to have power? Knows the meaning of words like dictator and/or totalitarian.

2 Module 2 Subordinate Skills: Citizenship Participation
Knows examples of how citizens are allowed to participate in their government. Can explain what happens when citizens are not allowed to participate in their government. Module 2 Subordinate Skills: Citizenship Participation Prior knowledge in American History regarding how citizens participated in government. Prior knowledge in World History regarding how citizens participated in government Understands the meaning of words like terms, voting, and elected officials. Understands what the prefixes auto- , olig-, demo- mean. Understands what the suffix –cratic means.

3 Module 3 Subordinate Skills: Creating Original Examples
Has some prior knowledge of American history from 4th and 5th grade. Can explain what happens when citizens are not allowed to participate in their government. Module 3 Subordinate Skills: Creating Original Examples Has some prior knowledge of civic responsibility from prior knowledge in 1st-3rd grade Social Studies. Knows the countries of Europe and Latin America covered in the 6th grade Social Studies Standards Has the ability to explain using expository writing Has read historical fiction books. Has some knowledge of the governments of modern day countries.

4 Module 4 Subordinate Skills: Research Project
Knows how to distinguish between credible and non-credible websites on the internet Knows how to cite sources and evidence. Module 4 Subordinate Skills: Research Project Knows how to use a word processor to collect information Knows how to save information on a flash drive or Google docs
