1 RADKE READER August 26, 2016 Classroom News
We had a great first week. The students organized their supplies, desks and lockers. They met their homeroom teachers and did getting to know you activities in both their homerooms and Cross-Categorical classroom. Everyone really enjoyed our Me Bag presentations. We had a great time getting to know our new classmates. We started a novel, Trumpet of the Swan, wrote a journal entry, If I were a superhero, my super power would be…, took a topic one readiness test in Math, and began our first grammar lesson unit on subjects and predicates and writing complete sentences. We are off to a great new year! Curriculum Night 5th Grade Curriculum Night Presentation from 6:00-6:15 in the Multipurpose Room. I hope to see everyone Wednesday Night, August 31 in Room 305 from 6:15-7:00. 6th grade Teacher’s will be in their own rooms. Our Assistants Mrs. Carol Riesner, 14 year veteran classroom assistant. 2 What We’re Learning Next Week Classroom Behavior System
Reading: TRUMPET OF THE SWAN by E.B. White Spelling/Phonics: SLANT INVENTORIES Writing: PARAGRAPH WRITING Math: PROPERTIES OF MULTIPLICATION Science: Properties of Matter Social Studies: Map Skills Snack Time We will have a daily snack time as our 5th and 6th grade lunch/recess block is not until 12:20-1:00. Please send a healthy snack on the Pre-Approved District 41 Snack List. Classroom Behavior System We use Michele Garcia Winner Social Thinking. Terms your students should be very familiar with is expected and unexpected behavior. Students should use Superflex to overcome the team of unthinkables (unexpected behavior) and turn it around to display expected behavior throughout the day. Students will earn Radke Bucks throughout the day for expected behavior and pay unexpected fines. Students can buy high interest activities, such as: computer time, free time, lunch with teacher, inside recess, lunch with a friend, use of teacher chair, and much more! Be a H.E.R.O.
