Service at the Ronald McDonald House
By Kaytlin Marden

What is it? The Ronald McDonald House is a “home-away-from-home” where families with sick children can stay if the medical bills are just too much to handle. It’s a relief for these families because they don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from. They live here at a little to no cost.

What I did... I had the opportunity to cook, clean, or set up a movie. I chose to cook.

What I learned... First, I learned that this house existed. Second, I realized that trials don’t block the way of being happy for these wonderful families. Each person I met was so excited we were there and only expressed joy although they lived there because their child was seriously ill. Their happiness was contagious and I found myself enjoying my interaction with the families. Third, I want to be like the Ronald McDonald House residents. I want to be as selfless as them and stay strong even though times look tough. I loved my time serving there and I want to do it again!

“Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
