and was situated in Hyde Park 2½ years to build secured the Victorians’ dominant position as a global power Just over 19 acres built under 900,000 feet of glass which led to its name, the ‘Crystal Palace’ It could hold between 40,000 and 60,000 standing visitors a huge semicircular glass roof over the transept, is credited to Sir Joseph Paxton a specially built venue on the opening day 25,000 people paid for seats the event should be open to the entire world
