3. The South is losing it
The confederacy is losing resources quickly as the war progresses
The North is constantly rebuilding and fortifying their weapons and troops
The Union keeps pushing the war south into GA
When the south was in it’s prime it held Union prisoners of war

4. Andersonville
Only created to hold 10,000 ended up holding over 30,000 union soldiers
Just like English prisons, overpopulation led to sanitary issues
13,000 died in the prison from starvation and disease
The Captain Henry Wirz who was in charge of the prison was executed by the Union

6. William T. Sherman Eventually rose to prominence as a Union General
Grant put Sherman as the head of the western theater in the war
One of the main locations of the western theater is Atlanta
Sherman is seen as controversial by many Georgians but his impact to GA can’t be argued

7. Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign
Sherman led his troops to the outskirts of Atlanta and fired on the city to make the civilians leave
The confederate army sent General Hood to face Sherman but they lost and retreated
The battle of Atlanta was several skirmishes in July of 1864
Sherman occupied the city between Sept-Nov 1864

8. Sherman’s March to the Sea
After setting fire to the city, Sherman started his march in November 15, 1864
The Union troops had an open path to the Atlantic thanks to CSA retreats and the anaconda plan
Sherman burned buildings and took over CSA strongholds in a path that was 300 miles long and 60 miles wide
Sherman made it to Savannah on December 21, 1864
