Status of the Ig constant region genes. A, Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA from a control subject (C) and the patient (P) . DNA was digested with Bam HI and hybridized with a Cγ4 probe (left panel) or with Pst I and hybridized with a Cα probe (right panel) . The bands corresponding to each constant region gene are indicated to the left of each panel. The duplicate Cγ4/ψCγ bands in the control sample correspond to alleles indistinguishable because of Bam HI restriction site polymorphisms.21 B, Map of the human Ig heavy chain locus in germline configuration.
