1 Student/Teacher Perspectives
What I learned

2 First thing’s first Enjoyed interviewing my highschool instrumental teacher and friends on the subject of music education Opened a lot of new information on education not just music

3 Teacher interview I had prepared for my instrumental teach Mr.Pireddu three main questions With music education always changing, how do you implement it into your learning?” “Social justice is now a greater concept than say when you were learning, so are you wary of certain subjects in your teaching?” “What’s important to you when having your students learn music?” From that it led to other smaller questions however those were the main three I wanted to know specifically

4 Student When I had to interview students/ my friends I wanted to pick students who did experience music education albeit in highschool or in private lessons The types of students I interviewed were First year in fanshawe in computer programming First year in Western for Arts and humanities Fourth year in English wanting to become an editor With these differing fields of studies I wanted to see what their experience with music education was

5 Similarities Found Music education to be lacking
Not a lot of focus in music education No free realm for creativity All loved music and education Felt performance was main aspect of music education No individual attention

6 Difference in Ideas When interviwing the students they all had different ideas on what music education should be like Some agreed and diagreed on the idea of performance since some did not enjoy it while others did Theory and history were what some students wanted and its not what they got They thought maybe a focus on music should be done by the school board

7 Clips of students thoughts on music Education
What was your experience in music education? What do you think of music education overall?

8 Conclusion From what I discovered while they are studying different curriculums they all enjoy music as students The teacher felt as though their students liked music as well Constraints are there within music education which causes these drifts of student and teacher within music Constraints to creativity and amusement with music However no music is much more free roam then what it used to be, according to teacher so there will be change soon and perhaps by then there will be no constraints on music education
