A lot of anger over social inequalities and ruthless treatment of peasants A full-scale revolution was in the works

Russia and Japan = imperialist powers Competed for Korea and Manchuria The two nations signed a treaty and Russia broke the treaty Japan attacks = Defeats Russia

7 Bloody Sunday January 22, 1905 200,000 workers and their families approached the czar’s palace Carried a petition asking for better working conditions and more personal freedom Guards were ordered to fire on the crowd Killed between 500-1,000 unarmed civilians

8 World War 1 Czar Nicholas II made the decision to drag Russia into WW1
Russia = unprepared to handle military and economic cost A year into the war, 4 million soldiers had been killed War = destroying the morale of the troops Soldiers mutinied, deserted, and ignored orders

9 The March Revolution Workers swarmed the street
Soldiers disobeyed orders and sided with the workers “Down with the autocracy! Down with the war!” The March Revolution succeeded in bringing down the Czar
