in French means Fat Tuesday. began in 1699 when brought to the US by a French explorer. banned in New Orleans until 1823 when the US took over the city. banned again in the s because of it’s party reputation.

More Facts put on hold again during WWI and throughout the s because of the Great Depression. thrived through the 1940s, but canceled during WW2. Mardis Gras continues to thrive today.
