1 Review New Rhetorical Terms
Metonymy- a figure of speech in which one entity is used to stand for another associated entity. The pen is mightier than the sword. Synecdoche-refers to the whole of a thing by the name of any one of its parts. Calling a car “wheels” is a synecdoche because a part of a car “wheels” stands for the whole car.  Anaphora-the deliberate repetition of the first part of the sentence in order to achieve an artistic effect. Epistrophe- repetition of phrases or words at the end of the clauses or sentences. Asyndeton- intentional lack of conjunctions.
